Alternative Education Resources
Alternative School programs are on the rise in the United States.
In 2015, there was an estimated 4548 registered alternative ed programs in this country. With the start of the 2025-2026 school year, there are now over 5800 such programs that are working with at-risk students.
Alternative schools exist in a variety of locations. Some are classified as a school within a school. These programs are given a set number of classrooms and exist within the confines of wing or hallway of a larger traditional school. Others are operating in older abandoned school buildings that school districts have mothballed or set aside for undetermined future use. There are others that rent their location in strip malls or older post offices.
Regardless of the size, structure, or location, alternative schools serve to assist at-risk students with finishing their education in an environment that is flexible and personalized.
Our Services at AltEdResources
Alternative Schools are not the same as traditional schools.
They have fewer students attending, typically have shorter grading periods, and for the most part, can more easily address the issues their students dealt with in the traditional schools.
During our years of service in the Alternative Schools, it was often difficult to attend an educational conference that was full of teachers and administrators that worked in traditional buildings. Sure, there was great collaboration and learning going on, but the issues and topics being discussed often did not relate well with what we as alternative school educators were facing in our own buildings
At Alternative Education Resources, we offer real world procedures and practices that have been successfully implemented and used for years.
Used in multiple states and districts, these are tools that can be made to fit your specific program and school culture needs.
Along with our digital tools, we also offer professional development for building principals and coordinators.
